HARARE – The ruling ZANU PF Party in ZIMBABWE has intensified a program in which the bulk of its original leaders are leaving their positions unceremoniously and in groups.

The development comes amid reports saying the authorities have blocked former Vice President EMMERSON MNANGAGWA from leaving the country and allegedly placed him under surveillance for security reasons.

However, the State has not commented on the reports in the privately run newspapers and the social media regarding Mr MNANGAGWA, who was fired this week for allegedly undermining the authority of President ROBERT MUGABE.

Meanwhile, provincial structures across ZIMBABWE are submitting names of leaders they want expelled from the former liberation movement, which in the 1960s and 1970s fought the RHODESIAN minority regime to bring independence in 1980.

The State-run HERALD says MATABELELAND SOUTH, and NORTH, and HARARE have joined SIX other regions to support the dismissal of Mr MNANGAGWA and the decision to replace him with FIRST Lady GRACE MUGABE.

It says others are BULAWAYO, MASHONALAND CENTRAL, MASHONALAND EAST, MASHONALAND WEST, MASVINGO and MANICALAND; while Mr MNANGAGWA’s home region, the MIDLANDS, still has to announce its stand.

The provinces are demanding expulsion of leaders suspected of links with or sympathy for the former Vice President, with some members saying the Head of State should even pounce on government departments and weed out more suspects.

In the capital, Politburo members CLEVERIA CHIZEMA and OMEGA HUNGWE, as well as HARARE EAST MP TERRENCE MUKUPE, are to go, while 22 others face suspension for being part of the alleged MNANGAGWA Faction.

The HERALD quotes HARARE Provincial Coordinating Committee Chairperson CHARLES TAWENGWA as saying many things have been happening in the party in the past few days, with some people creating their own centres of power against the President.

Criticising members who booed the FIRST Lady at the weekend rally in BULAWAYO, he says his province will protect the party, the President, the FIRST Lady and the FIRST Family and the country.

State Security Minister KEMBO MOHADI and Interior Deputy Minister OBEDINGWA MGUNI also face the axe after their MATABELELAND SOUTH approved to boot them out with 13 other members for alleged collusion with Mr MNANGAGWA.

Provincial Vice Chairperson SOUL MAHALIMA NCUBE says the President has dismissed Mr MNANGAGWA and the region needs to do something about his sympathisers to ensure unity in the party.

He says the province endorses the exit of the former Vice President, whom he can no longer address as Comrade, and is in full support of the amendment of the constitution to have a female Vice President – who should be FIRST Lady GRACE MUGABE.

While the MIDLANDS has not announced decisions, Provincial Chairperson DANIEL MACKENZIE NCUBE says there is tension in the region; with some elements organising meetings to plot against each other.

The HERALD says the province is meeting today, amid reports saying some youths have already started efforts to seize party vehicles from suspected MNANGAGWA allies including MBIZO Legislator USHEUNESU MPERERI.

It says MASVINGO Province faces expulsion of Party National Production and Labour Secretary JOSAYA HUNGWE, Legal Affairs Deputy Secretary PAUL MANGWANA, Security Deputy Secretary LOVEMORE MATUKE.

Others are Central Committee member CLEMENCE MAKWARIMBA Provincial Chairperson EZRA CHADZAMIRA for allegedly leading efforts to undermine the authority of President MUGABE in the province.

MANICALAND Province wants 38 leaders allegedly linked to Mr MNANGAGWA out, among them Politburo members OPPAH MUCHINGURI, PATRICK CHINAMASA and CHRIS MUSHOHWE.

Others are MIKE MADIRO, JOSHUA SACCO, MOSES GUTU, WINNIE MLAMBO, JOSEPH MUJATI, CHRISTOPHER CHINGOSHO, ALICE CHITIMA, OLIVER MANDIPAKA, GORDEN CHIKWANDA, TIMOTHY MAPUNGWANA.

The province further recommends the ouster of MONICA MUTSVANGWA, ELLEN GWARADZIMBA, TASIN DUBE, HUBERT NYANHONGO and JUDITH MAWIRE.

MASHONALAND WEST is expelling Politburo member PRISCA MUPFUMIRA and ZVIMBA WEST MP ZIYAMBI ZIYAMBI.

MASHONALAND EAST Province is targeting JOEL BIGGIE MATIZA and Deputy Parliamentary Speaker MARBEL CHINOMONA, with 12 other leaders are to be probed for alleged links with Mr MNANGAGWA.

The ongoing developments in ZIMBABWE threaten to shake the foundations of the ruling party, which is made up of TWO of the major liberation movements that dislodged colonial and apartheid systems in the SADC Region./Sabanews/cam
