ZAMBIA: IMPEACHMENT/ZNBC/28/3/18 SABANews 1
LUSAKA – FIVE political parties and TWO civil society groups in ZAMBIA have condemned the Impeachment Motion filed by the opposition UNITED PARTY FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT, UPND.
ZNBC News says their leaders have petitioned National Assembly Speaker PATRICK MATIBINI to dismiss the proposition.
It says the leaders have accused the UPND and its allies of deliberately abusing the national democracy by attempting to disrupt the smooth governance through a frivolous motion.
The party leaders are WRIGHT MUSOMA of the ZAMBIA REPUBLICAN PARTY, PETER CHANDA of NEW CONGRESS PARTY, and ROBERT MWANZA of CITIZENS DEMOCRATIC PARTY.
Others are COSMO MUMBA of NEW REVOLUTION PARTY and EDWIN SAKALA of ZAMBIA DIRECT DEMOCRACY MOVEMENT.
ZNBC News says the civil society groups are the ZAMBIAN DNA represented by SPUKI MULEMWA and the NETWORK FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AGAINST VIOLENCE represented by MOSES KALONDE.
It says the petitioners have also urged all other Members of Parliament to dismiss the motion with the contempt it deserves.
PATRIOTIC FRONT Founder Member EDWIN LIFWEKELO says the UPND is using the Impeachment Motion as a platform to raise issues regarding their failed presidential petition.
He says the allegations show the UPND is not serious about dialogue, because it is trivializing serious issues of national development instead of debating policies.
Mr LIFWEKEKO has issued a statement to the national broadcaster in the capital, LUSAKA, saying the opposition party does not mean well for ZAMBIA.
The RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF DEVELOPMENT AND DEMOCRACY Director MALAMA KAPANDA says the push for Presidential Impeachment and dialogue is hypocritical.
The research expert says the stance by the organisation, which is the THIRD-largest party in the Parliament of ZAMBIA, is an act of double standards that should not be entertained./Sabanews/cam
