NAMIBIA: RESETTLEMENT/NBC/22/6/18 SABANews 1
WINDHOEK – NAMIBIA says it needs about 146-MILLION-920-THOUSAND US dollars to resettle its nationals who wish to return home from neighbouring BOTSWANA.
Land Reform Deputy Minister PRISCILLA BOYS has revealed the information in answer to a question by opposition RDP Member of Parliament MIKE KAVEKOTORA.
She says the State does not have land currently, and the only option is to purchase commercial farmland and resettle the returning NAMIBIANS.
Deputy Minister PRISCILLA BOYS has told the House the government has already set up an Inter-Ministerial Committee to plan and come up proper measures to receive the descendants.
Some OVAHERERO and OVAMBANDERU who fled to BOTSWANA during the 1904 to 08 GERMAN War are currently registering to come back to their ancestral land.
NBC News says between 1992 and 93, the FIRST group of the TWO communities resettled at GAM in the OTJOZONDJUPA Region and EISEB Block in OMAHEKE Province.
MP KAVEKOTORA has agreed with the Deputy Minister, emphasising the returning NAMIBIANS need land, because the Genocide perpetrators robbed and displaced them.
The Legislator has condemned the current resettlement program, saying the scheme is resettling NAMIBIANS including individuals who never lost land./Sabanews/cam
